BiographyHistory

Born in Carlow (Ireland), Oliver MacDonagh first came to Australia in 1964 to take up the Foundation Chair of History at Flinders University (South Australia). In 1968 he returned to Ireland to hold a position at the University College Cork, later working at Yale University in 1970 then resettling in Australia in 1973.

MacDonagh had a 'strong interest in Irish-Australian immigration history' and with Ken Inglis (q.v.) 'conceived the multi-volume Bicentenary publication The Australians'; he also published thirteen books on modern Irish and British history and literature.
