Racheal Richardson was born in Cunnamulla, Queensland, in 1966. She grew up on a 27,000 acre property sixty miles south of Hay, New South Wales.
She attended Darlington Point Primary School, NSW (1971-1977), Catholic High School, Griffith (1978-1981) and Wade High School, Griffith (1982-1984). She graduated with a BA Dip Ed from Macquarie University in 1990.
Her time at Macquarie grew her love of creative writing into a passion.
Around this time she joined the Poet’s Union and delivered performance poetry in a number of venues in Sydney. Between 1991 and 1992, she had 6 poems published in Quadrant, Hecate, Going Down Swinging, Hatbox, and Off the Page.
After living in Sydney for seventeen years, working in marketing and advertising roles, she moved to Indonesia. She worked in Jakarta for six and a half years in advertising agencies, while travelling to many areas in South East Asia.
On her return to Australia, she settled on the 40-hectare property in the Wollumbin Caldera, inland from Byron Bay, she owned with her long-term ex-partner.
