BiographyHistory

Coward and McCann had both worked for Bobbs-Merrill before they started their own company. In 1956, Geoghegan joined the company under the proviso he would be offered presidency if he were able to strengthen the firm. Its earliest strength was children's books; later it became best known for its British authors' list, including such works as Lord of the Flies, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.
