As well as children's fiction, Nan McNab has written or illustrated numerous educational and instructional titles, including Distance Education (1996), Governing Australia (1997) and Surf Lifesaving Services (1997). Using the writing name Doug Ainslie, she wrote the non-fiction book Survival in the Australian Outdoors (1994), and as Hanna McAbbot she wrote a series of instructional books for householders, which included Household Hints and Tips (1990), Hanna McAbbot's Stain Removal Book (1991) and Hanna McAbbot's Green Guide (1991). As Alec McVicar she wrote Home Butchery in Australia (1993). In 1999 she wrote a book about body marking and piercing, Body Bizarre, Body Beautiful. Her story 'Greedy Gregory's Tooth' is included on the sound recording Stories for Younger Children Read by Max Gillies (1989). She has also illustrated numerous books written by other authors, including Take Away Food (1984).
