Playwright and visual and performing arts critic, McGillick lectured in the teaching of English as a foreign language at the University of Sydney, New South Wales and was a Director of the Institute of Contemporary Art in Sydney. McGillick has also written plays and features for radio and text for art exhibition catalogues and co-authored an English language textbook for foreign speakers, Ways of Writing (1987)
