BiographyHistory

The Griffin Theatre Company was founded by a group of NIDA graduates in 1978 in Sydney and from 1980 voted to devote its resources solely dedicated to the development and production of new Australian writing for stage. The company was named after Griffin Street, Surry Hills, where the first meetings were held. At the end of 1979, the Griffin Theatre Company was offered the use of the Stables Theatre in Nimrod Street - formerly the home of the legendary Nimrod Theatre founded by John Bell, Richard Wherrett and Ken Horler.
