BiographyHistory

Artist.

Parisian-born daughter of a Lithuanian father and a Romanian mother, Mirka Mora married French resistance fighter Georges Mora in 1947, and arrived in Australia with him and son Philippe in 1951.

An artist herself, she also operated, with her husband, a range of cafes, restaurants, and art galleries that had a significant impact on Melbourne's developing artistic life and culture: Charles Blackman and Joy Hester, for example, both had their first exhibitions at Mirka Cafe.

She is the mother of film-maker Philippe Mora, actor Tiriel Mora, and art dealer William Mora.
