BiographyHistory

Michael Young had an Australian soldier father who was a violinist and music critic and an Irish mother who was a painter and actor. Michael Young's early years were spent in Melbourne but he returned to Britain at the age of eight shortly before the end of his parent's marriage. He was a major figure in British 20th Century social policy and social reform and invented the Open University and the Consumer's Association.
