BiographyHistory

Gün Gencer was born in Antioch, Turkey. He graduated as an architect from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara in 1965, and with a Diploma in Directing from The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Sydney, in 1976. He has worked as a dramaturge, director and writer from 1965 and his stage, radio and television plays have been produced in theatre festivals in France and Turkey. In Australia he has also worked in the New South Wales public service and on subtitling for SBS TV. In 1968 he won the MAY Grand Prize for Best New Play in Turkey and, in 1970, he won two prizes from the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation for radio plays. His work has been read on ABC Radio and on SBS TV and he has read at the Harold Park Hotel, Sydney, and the Goethe Institute.
