An extreme nationalist movement, Australia First was founded in Sydney in October 1941. P. R. Stephensen was the foundation president and other members included W. J. Miles, C. W. Salier and Ian Mudie. As a consequence of their expressed sympathies for the German and Japanese governments, some members, including Stephensen, were arrested and interned during World War II.
