Mark Peel, an historian, is the author of the social history Good Times, Hard Times : The Past and the Future in Elizabeth (1995), which was shortlisted for the Age Book of the Year (non-fiction) in 1995. He has written many other history books, including A Little History of Australia (1997) and The Lowest Rung : Voices of Australian Poverty (2003).
