A story about when Yindingie was making the birds his task had not been an easy one. Yindingie had taken Jabiru's fine voice away from him, and he had given the laughter to Kookaburra. Kookaburra was not very happy about this and went off on his own to mope. Later Kookaburra realised the benefit of his laughter, and laughed out loudly after watching the frog trick the snake out of eating him. Moreover, this is the story about how the Kookaburra got its laugh.

'The Legends of Moonie Jarl is a collection of twelve traditional stories of the Butchulla/Badtjala people from Fraser Island and the adjacent mainland around Hervey Bay in Queensland. The Moonie Jarl of the title refers to the Butchulla/Badtjala elder responsible for passing traditional knowledge through generations of those people. Each story in this collection is incorporated into one of nine story-maps, supported by explanatory keys opposite each full-page illustration.'
