As a child, Bronwyn Blake lived in Heidelberg, Melbourne. She went to a number of schools including Ivanhoe Girls Grammar, Heidelberg State School, Eltham High and Presbyterian Ladies College, East Melbourne. She has been writing full time since 2000. Before that she worked as a teacher (her first real job), then in the community in a variety of jobs to do with children, families, communities and health. Blake has also taught sculpture and life drawing, sold shoes, waitressed, did housekeeping and nannying. She lived in Alaska for seven years while her husband, an upper-atmospheric physicist who had worked in Antarctica at the Mawson Base, continued his studies at the Geophysical Institute in Fairbanks, Alaska. While there Blake worked in remote area television as a general all-around-do-everything from artist to teacher. She has had three children, one of whom was born in Alaska, and the other two in Australia. In later years she has lived on a bush block outside Maldon, which is a historic gold rush town in Central Victoria.
