BiographyHistory

Mary Talbot Cross graduated with an MA from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland and is now [2007] a Fellow of the Faculty of Education at the University of Melbourne. The author has travelled widely, mostly in India, tracing the life of Laurence Hope (q.v.), the subject of her fictional account, Fate Knows No Tears.

Using her given name of Jennifer Carter she has also written non-fiction books: Eyes to the Future : Sketches of Australia and Her Neighbours in the 1870s was commissioned by the National Library of Australia and published in 2000. The biographical work, Painting the Islands Vermilion : Archibald Watson and the Brig Carl, was published in 1999.
