BiographyHistory

Varuna, former home of renowned Australian author Eleanor Dark and her husband Dr Eric Dark, was donated to the Eleanor Dark Foundation Ltd by their son Michael Dark in 1989 for use as a writers' centre. Since 1990 Varuna has been a unique national writers' centre, and has gained an excellent reputation for providing support for the professional development of Australian writers. Varuna offers a variety of writing programs throughout the year to Australian writers of ability and commitment, including Retreat Fellowships, Development Forums, mentorships and editorial programs. Varuna has also developed an exceptionally lively and varied literary program with a wide variety of courses, readings, book launches, discussions and many other events programmed each year.
