English novelist author of, amongst others, Captain Corellis's Mandolin. A guest at various Australian literary festivals since 1998, de Bernieres was interested in finding material for his writing in Australia. In the vicinity of Dampier in Western Australia, de Bernieres saw a statue of a dog and ultimately researched and wrote the novella Red Dog.
