BiographyHistory

Rodell was born in the United States, but lived for many years in Australia . She began her newspaper career at the Age in Melbourne in 1981. She worked in Melbourne for ten years, as a reporter and editor at the National Times, Australian Society and the Melbourne Herald, and also as an editor at Penguin Australia. She returned to the United States in 1990, and was for some years a member of the editorial board at the New York Times. In 1997 she moved to North Carolina, where she wrote a regular column for the Raleigh News & Observer. In 2003 she became editorial page editor of the Charleston Gazette in West Virginia, and in 2006 she was a visiting lecturer in journalism at the University of Tasmania.
