BiographyHistory

'Barbara Caine is Head of the School of Philosophical and Historical Inquiry at The University of Sydney. She was previously Professor of History at Monash University, and ARC Professorial Fellow from 1995 to 2010. She was the first Director of The University of Sydney’s Centre for Women’s Studies. Most of Barbara's earlier research and teaching centered on questions of gender and of sexuality within a late modern European framework. She now investigates questions about autobiography and biography and more broadly about the many different ways to approach questions about the individual life within history. Barbara was awarded an ARC Professorial Fellowship in 2007 for a large project entitled ‘History and the individual life’. Barbara Caine has published extensively in women's history, biography and life writing, and the history of feminism.' (Source: The Australian Academy of the Humanities website)
