Notes

  • 'E. S.', the author of 'The New Year' (Observer Miscellany 1875), was identified by A Book of South Australia as Eliza Strawbridge (Eliza Auld).

'E. S.' of Norwood, author of the poem 'Thoughts' (Observer Miscellany 1868) may also have been Eliza Strawbridge, although it could have been her sister Ethelwynne, who didn't marry until 1871. There may also be a connection with 'S' of Norwood, who wrote the 2nd prize original tale for Observer Miscellany vol 1 no 10 1868.
