The Christian Brothers were awarded custody of Ivor A. Knight when he was four years old. He lived in three different orphanages, until he was expelled from the last at the age of eleven. Embarking on a career with the Western Australian Prison Service, he reached the rank of Superintendent, running the Roebourne, Fremantle and Greenough prisons.
