'The Australian Publishers Association (APA) is the peak industry body for Australian book, journal and electronic publishers. However, with magazine and e-publishers joining the fold, "book" was dropped in 1996 to better reflect the diversity of ... members. Before the ABPA, there were two local associations in Sydney and Melbourne - the New South Wales Publishers Association and the Victorian Publishers Association. These associations merged to form a national body, whose membership was - and still is - open to any person or company engaged in publishing in Australia, regardless of size or nationality of ownership.'
