Tam Sie worked at a variety of occupations such as gold miner, fisherman, New Guinea trader, tin mine foreman, rice farmer, cane cutting contractor, storekeeper, cane and banana grower. He became the most successful Chinese entrepreneur in the Innisfail district of north Queensland.
