BiographyHistory

The American Association of Australian Literary Studies is a professional organisation with members in North America, Australasia, Europe, and Asia. It was established at Columbia University in 1986 as a forum for the discussion of Australian and New Zealand literature and culture specifically, and Postcolonial studies more generally. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in these topics.

Since 1987, the AAALS has published a biannual refereed journal, Antipodes. Since 2011 it also publishes a blog called Reading Across the Pacific. The AAALS hosts one conference each year, and is an Allied Organization of the Modern Language Association of America (MLA) (Website http://www.australianliterature.org/index.htm sighted 2/11/2011).
