BiographyHistory

Most of the story of George is based on legends which grew up well after his death. He is known to have been martyred at Lydda, Palestine before the reign of the Emperor Constantine. His legendary slaying of a dragon is not heard of before the 12th century.
George is the patron saint of England, Portugal, Germany, Aragon, Genoa and Venice.
