BiographyHistory

Pemulwuy was an Aboriginal warrior who showed immediate resistance to the claiming of Australia by Governor Arthur Phillip (1738-1814) in 1788.

During the next 15 years, Pemulwuy used guerilla tactics to attack the settlers at Botany Bay. In December 1790, Pemulway speared John McIntyre, Governor Phillip's gamekeeper, who later died of the wound.

Pemulwuy was shot in 1802 and his body dismembered. His head was apparently sent to England. It has not yet been found for repatriation to his homeland.
