BiographyHistory

Jackey Jackey was from Sydney and accompanied Edmund Kennedy on his expedition to Cape York in Queensland as a tracker and guide. During the 1840s Jackey Jackey was employed on a number of exploratory expeditions in New South Wales however the Queensland expedition made him a hero of the settlers. Jackey Jackey came to be admired by Kennedy for his skill in bushcraft, personality and courage. During the expedition only three of their party of thirteen survived. For his loyalty and valour, Jackey Jackey earned the only known solid silver 'gorget' or breastplate made by Brush and MacDonnell, which was considered a masterpiece.
