BiographyHistory

'Meryl has earned International acclaim as a choreographer of great invention and emotional impact. As one of Australia’s finest contemporary artists, Meryl has created a dance theatre aesthetic all her own. Her signature piece Furioso packs the emotional and sensual punch that epitomises her work in a nuanced, sometimes poetic, sometimes fierce production of dense choreographic invention.

'Meryl danced with the Australian Ballet and then performed and choreographed with Pina Bausch’s Tanztheater Wuppertal in Germany. She was the Artistic Director of Meryl Tankard Company in Canberra and Australian Dance Theatre before embarking on a freelance career that has earned her the admiration of audiences and the respect of her peers all over the world. Her projects span a wide range of genres from collaboration with Taiko drummers, filmmakers and Opera directors, to Broadway musicals and Olympic opening ceremonies. Meryl’s other awards include Canberran of the Year, the Sydney Myer Music Award for Individual Achievement, a Helpmann Award for costume design (with Dan Potra).' (Source:
