BiographyHistory

A German youth who claimed (controversially) to have grown up in a darkened cell in total isolation. He was taken in by German families and, for some time, by the English Lord Stanhope, who sought to unravel his origins but could not. He died of a fatal, possibly self-inflicted, stab wound.
