BiographyHistory

George Seelaf convened the meeting in Melbourne in February 1952 at which the Australasian Book Society was formed. At that time secretary of the Victorian Branch of the Australasian Meat Industry Employees' Union [AMIEU], Seelaf was a friend of Frank Hardy, and had participated in the defence campaign for Hardy's Power Without Glory. Seelaf was active in the Footscray Historical Society and the Footscray Community Arts Centre, and fostered cultural and social activities for trade unionists in Melbourne.
