Gareth Evans, now Chancellor of and Honorary Professorial Fellow at the Australian National University, was a member of the Australian Parliament for twenty-one years years, and a cabinet minister for thirteen years in the Hawke-Keating era, including eight years as Foreign Minister, from 1988 to 1996. He led the Brussels-based International Crisis Group from 2000 to 2009, co-chaired major international commissions on mass atrocity crimes and nuclear weapons, and has won many prizes and awards for his contributions to international policymaking.
He is the author or editor of thirteen books, including his memoir, Incorrigible Optimist, and Inside the Hawke Keating Government: A Cabinet Diary.
