BiographyHistory

A highly decorated five-star general, Douglas MacArthur was commander in chief of U.S. armed forces in the Pacific theatre during World War II. He subsequently became Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces defending the Southwest Pacific region and between 1942-1944 MacArthur's headquarters were located in Brisbane (Queensland); it was from here that his command led the Allied victory over Japan.
