BiographyHistory

John Bede Polding was admitted to the Benedictine Order in 1811 at the age of seventeen, was ordained priest in 1819 and consecrated bishop in 1834. He elevation to the episcopacy was expressly to fill the role of first Roman Catholic bishop to Australia.

Polding later became an archbishop and Count of the Holy Roman Empire.
