BiographyHistory

Pagliaro completed a Master of Arts degree in 1972 with a thesis on 'The Amoebaean Poems of Theocritus'. He taught in the Italian Department at La Trobe University. In 1990 Pagliaro discovered a copy of Raffaello Carboni's book Gilburnia on a Rome street stall. Although it was known that Carboni had published another book about his experiences in Australia from 1853-1855, this book had been thought to have been lost. Pagliaro's subsequent translation and publication of Gilburnia in 1993 threw new light on the indigenous people forgotten in the Eureka story.
