BiographyHistory

Illustrator Rick Martin was born in Melbourne but lived in England as a child. He was, however, educated in Western Australia. He later attended art school at Perth Technical College in James Street in the late sixties. Martin worked in advertising then travelled through Africa, Europe, and Asia. He has worked variously as a crayfisherman, musician, cartoonist, children's book illustrator, furniture maker, shipwright (Duyfken replica). He also built a wooden yacht to live on with his family. He came ashore to attend university at ECU in Bunbury graduating with a degree in Visual Art. Martin has since taught at TAFE, Bunbury Regional Art Galleries, ECU, Bunbury and Bunbury Regional Prison. He has exhibited at Yallingup Galleries, Art Geo. Busselton, Bunbury Art Galleries, and Bunbury Biennale. He moved to Bridgetown. where he renovated an old house, judged exhibitions in Busselton, Great Southern, and Bridgetown.
