BiographyHistory

Shane Pickett is an Indigenous artist. Although he came from an artistic family and had created art all his life, it didn't occur to Pickett to become an artist until he was 19. Pickett went to art school for three years before becoming a full-time artist. He has won numerous awards and exhibited his works nationally and internationally. Pickett served as artist-in-residence at Mount Lawley College and has worked in local prisons, bringing art skills to Indigenous and non-Indigenous inmates.

Pickett won the inaugural Sunshine Coast Art Prize in 2006 and in 2008 won the People's Choice Award in the inaugural Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards.
