BiographyHistory

Printer John Thomas Shawyer worked in the South Australian Register office before joining the printing partnership Hussey and Shawyer (later Hussey, Shawyer and Gall) in the mid 1850s. He then conducted his own business as John Thomas Shawyer and Co. A deacon of the Congregational Church, Shawyer's output reflected an interest in church matters, including Aboriginal missions. The company published the South Australian Almanac between 1864 and 1887. Shawyer died in 1895, and the business was continued by his son, P. Shawyer.
