Mario Biondi grew up in Como, Italy and graduated from Milan's Bocconi University with an economics and business degree. He published two books of verse before turning to prose. His fourth novel Gli occhi di una donna ('The Eyes of a Woman'), a family saga spanning the years from World War I to the 1980s, was awarded the Campiello Literary Award) in 1985.
Biondi is also a translator of works into Italian.
