Lloyd Ross was the son of the well-known socialist R. S. Ross (1875-1931). He founded the Victorian Railways Union and was editor of the Socialist, and worked as an adult education teacher and freelance journalist. Ross wrote numerous articles for Australian and international political journals, and also authored several plays. He also wrote several political books and pamphlets including Closer Unity Among Transport Workers (1936), You and Your Job (1944) and Soldiers in Coveralls : a survey of Australia's industrial war effort (1942?).
