Prosser is a freelance writer and a performance poet. In 1985 she was Writer in Residence for the Street Arts Community Theatre Company, funded by the Literature Board. From 1986-88 she was involved with the Adelaide writing community through women writers' groups, and was involved with the "New Writing Performed" evenings at Club Foote. She was producer and presenter of the radio programmes "Author's Proof" and "Writers' Radio", 5UV 1990-1992.
In 1989 Prosser received a Literary Grant from the State Department for the Arts. She was involved in a community arts programme which looked at women's issues and resulted in the publication of Juggling the Roles (1990).
Prosser completed a MA (Writing), with a project called "Three Moon Creek", at the University of Technology Sydney in 1997 and a PhD thesis called "The Plover Paradox: A Fictocritical Poetics of Detection" at the University of Adelaide in 2006. She has worked as a Lecturer in the Humanities at the University of Adelaide.
