BiographyHistory

The firm F. Cunninghame was founded in King Street, Sydney by printer Francis Cunninghame, when he took over Thomas Trood's Albion Printing Office in 1853. In 1859 the business moved to Pitt Street, and in 1869, when Lodolph Theodore Mellin joined, became F. Cunninghame and Co. The firm described itself as Government Printer in 1893; by 1902 it employed fifty people.

The firm always demonstrated skill in decorative work, printing music with decorative borders, playbills, and advertisements. In the twentieth century it was known for its coloured printing, and coloured lithographs of Australian film posters made by Cunninghame are prized by collectors.
