Jodus Madrid attained a Tertiary Foundation Certificate from Southern Cross University in 1996 and then moved to Adelaide to study archaeology at Flinders University. His interest in writing began at university when he was asked to write an article for a university magazine. He has written academic papers and presented them around the country and abroad, including the World Archaeology Congress 4 in Cape Town, South Africa.
Over a number of years, Madrid has worked as a cultural consultant; written stage plays, documentaries, films and private enterprise, as well as doing some acting. He has worked as an Indigenous Mentor at a South Australian Juvenile Detention Centre with a high percentage of young Indigenous inmates. Madrid co-ordinated a course for that institution called the Young Indigenous Entrepreneur Program which teaches the boys about small business and to come up with a product which they could sell to the general public.
