Trask was one of the pioneers of the development of the library and information profession in Australia. She worked in public and university libraries and taught librarianship for many years. In 1974 she established the School of Library and Information Studies at the Kuring-gai College of Advanced Education.
In 1985 Trask started the Australian Information Management Association (AIMA) which provided leadership training for mid-range professionals as well as other consultancy services. In her latter years, Trask served on the Council of the University of Technology, Sydney and, from 1998-2002, was deputy chancellor of that institution.
