BiographyHistory

Michael Shirley grew up in South Africa; his father was a journalist. He was one of the first white executives to head a black marketing department in an advertising agency. The apartheid laws constrained his work and he left South Africa in 1965 to join his father in Australia. His father worked for Time-Life and later the South African Argus Group.
