BiographyHistory

Ana Kokkinos practised as a solicitor, and worked as a researcher and as an industrial officer before entering the film industry. In 1990, through a Woman in Film and Television program, she wrote and directed her first two short films. The following year she completed the post graduate diploma in Film and Production, writing, directing and editing 'Antamosi.'

Ana Kokkinos is best known as a director and co-writer of her short feature film 'Only The Brave', with Mira Robertson and Fiona Eagger, produced in 1993-94. 'Only The Brave' enjoyed wide critical success and had theatrical release in Australia and America in 1995. 'Head On', co-written by Andrew Bovell and Mira Robertson, was Ana's debut feature film. Set over the course of one night, Head On focuses on Ari, a handsome nineteen-year-old boy of Greek descent who finds himself torn between his traditional upbringing and his sexual identity. As he attempts to come to terms with where he fits in, Ari careens between hanging out with his friends and bickering with his family while also becoming involved in several heterosexual and homosexual encounters.
