Peter Kemeny gained a Bachelor of Divinity degree in Hungary and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Western Australia. He worked as a Lutheran pastor and a teacher and senior lecturer in English and communication studies at Perth Technical College and at the Western Australian Institute of Technology. His sermons have been broadcast on Radio Monte Carlo, and Ethnic Radio in Adelaide, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney and he read his work at the University of Western Australia. He won the 1956 Catherine Moss (University of Western Australia) prize for literature.

Kemeny's Hungarian Sermons are held by the National Library of Australia, the German sermons in the archives of the Lutheran Church of Australia and the English sermons are privately held. Kemeny's poetry remains unpublished.
