Helen Murphy spent her childhood in the Melbourne suburbs of Mitcham and Kew. Following her marriage she settled in Springvale (also in Melbourne). Murphy has been committed to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal movement since the late 1970s. Her other interests include swimming, tapestry, photography, ballet and opera.
