BiographyHistory

The third daughter of John and Eleanor Hopkins, Gertrude Hopkins grew up in the English countryside, developing a strong affinity with the natural world. In 1884, John Hopkins became seriously ill, and the family departed for Australia, seeking a change of climate for the sake of his health. Gertrude Hopkins lived in Sydney for another ten years, before succumbing to a long illness at the age of 25.
