BiographyHistory

Elsie Macleod is one of two children of Australian Prime Minister John Curtin (q.v.) and Elsie (nee Needham) Curtin. Macleod undertook secretarial studies after leaving school and worked for a time in the civil engineer's office of the Western Australian Government Railways. In the early 1940s she was briefly married to William Cole, a dentist.

In 1944 Macleod lived with her father in the Lodge, Canberra before the arrival of Curtin's wife. In 1948, Macleod married Stan Macleod, a medical auditor. She spent most of her life in the Curtin family home in the Perth suburb of Cottesloe.
