Tad Sobolewski was educated in the Cadet Corps in Lwow and at the Lwow University, and worked as a journalist, film and literary critic in Poland until 1939. During World War II he was in the resistance movement, monitoring and distributing BBC news in Warsaw. He was deported to a slave labour camp in Germany in 1944, where, after the war had ended, he joined the Polish emigre press in a German displaced persons camp and contributed to the Polish press in France and England. In Australia, he worked initially in bush sawmills and in factories and later became an accredited interpreter and translator. He has been a member of the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW), the Australian Society of Authors, the Multilingual Authors Association of South Australia and of the South Australian Writers Centre.
