Stanley Robe, a speaker of Polish with some knowledge of German and French, gained his matriculation and undertook four years study in Industrial Chemistry and Metallurgy in Melbourne. He served for five years in the Australian army (AIF) during World War II. Widely read in History, Archaeology, Comparative Religion and Physics, he was a founding member of the Australasian Book Society and has been a member of the Realist Writers Group and the Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW). In 1986 he received second prize from Panorama Polska, Warsaw, for his unpublished autobiographical manuscript, Memoirs from Australia, written in Polish. His work has been read on Radio 3EA's Polish language program.
